What is Design Research?
Design research allows you to understand the needs, the problems and the environment of your target audience in relation to your product, service or experience.
Design Research is considered a form of primary research into the design process and emerged as a recognizable field of study in the 1960s during a Design Methods conference at Imperial College London in 1962, which later led to the founding of the Design Research Society in 1966.
Under the premise You are not your user, the purpose of Design Research is to uncover:
- Who your users are.
- The problems your users are facing.
- The way in which your users will be using the product, service or experience.
This can be seen as the equivalent of carrying out user research into your target audience.
