A step by step guide on creating a variables group within collections in Figma.

Step One: Open the Variables Window

A screenshot of Figma highlighting the settings icon to the right of "Local Variables" on the right menu side bar. Click it to open the variables window. If you can't find it, make sure you have selected the canvas (i.e. that no frame, asset or other object is selected).

On the right menu bar, next to Local Variables, click the settings icon.

Step Two: Create a New Group

A screenshot of Figma showing the Variable window open, it shows 4 variables with default names. The four variables are a color, number, string and boolean. On the screenshot is the menu that appears when you right click a variable. Highlighted on this menu is the “New Group with Selection” menu option. Click it to create a new group and add the selected variable to it.

Right click the variable which you wish to create a group for, and in the menu that appears click New Group with Selection.

This will open up the variable sidebar and create create a new group called "New group" and will add the variable that you selected to it.

A screenshot of Figma showing the Variable window open with the side bar open, this side bar was opened when we created a new group. The side bar shows 4 variables have been created and selected is a group called “new group”. This is the group that was created from the variable that we selected in the prior step.
